LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's offense scored at least 20 points in three separate quarters and saw all 12 players score in the ballgame to help the Ragin' Cajuns cruise past Spring Hill College, 85-48, in their final exhibition of the 2019-20 campaign.
Â
The 37-point win is the team's largest in an exhibition contest since topping LSU-Alexandria, 86-48, on Oct. 31, 2017.
Â
Newcomer Makayia Hallmon and sophomore Diamond Morrison each produced 12-point performances, while Jazmyn Womack and Brandi Williams finished the game with 10 points apiece. Hallmon and Morrison wrapped up exhibition play with double-digit scoring in both games.
Â
The foursome played a pivotal role in the success of the overall offense, which finished the night with a 53.6 percent (30-for-56) field goal percentage and a 47.6 percentage (10-for-21) from deep. Louisiana's bench was also key in the victory, outscoring Spring Hill College's reserves, 52-9.
Â
It was all Louisiana in the opening 10 minutes after it went 10-for-19 from the field to take a 22-10 advantage. Things evened out in the second quarter, but Louisiana was able to score 20 points and take a 42-27 lead into the locker room.
Â
Louisiana opened up a 49-29 lead at the 7:34 mark of the third period, but Spring Hill kept the home team honest with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Ragin' Cajuns squashed any chance of the Badgers finding momentum in the first seven minutes of the final quarter, outscoring the visitors, 21-4, in that stretch to go up 80-42, its largest lead of the game.
Â
From there, the team held strong and closed out the remaining three minutes to wrap up exhibition play with an 85-48 victory.
Â
Louisiana officially opens the 2019-20 season on Thursday, November 7, when it welcomes Loyola (New Orleans) to the Cajundome. Tipoff for the regular-season opener is slated for 6 p.m.
