Cajuns two shots behind No. 2 Washington; pair with USF, UTSA in second round
CARROLLTON, Texas – Junior Bjorn Gudjonsson shot a 1-over-par 73 in his 2019-20 debut and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Golf team completed the first day of the 2019 Maridoe Intercollegiate in seventh place on Sunday at the Maridoe Golf Club.
Competing against its most talented field of the season and on a course that rates among the toughest in the state of Texas, the Ragin' Cajuns recorded a team score of 305 to finish three strokes behind New Mexico and two behind No. 2-ranked Washington on the par-72, 7,554-yard course.
Gudjonsson completed the first day in a tie for seventh-place for Louisiana with Micah Goulas carding a 2-over 74 to end the first day in a tie for 15th. Peter Hinnant (78), Jack Tolson (80) and Hudson Dubinski (83) followed for the Ragin' Cajuns in the standings.
No. 12-ranked SMU claimed the first day lead, posting the lone below-par round of the day with a team score of 1-under 287. Host North Texas was five shots back at 292 with Arkansas State (297), No. 15 Texas A&M (298) and New Mexico (302) rounding out the top five.
Noah Goodwin of SMU was one of three golfers to shoot below par on the opening day after he fired a 4-under 68 to claim the individual lead with Julien Sale of Arkansas State and Mac Meissner of SMU two shots back.
Second round action resumes on Monday at 8:30 a.m., with golfers teeing off from the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Louisiana will be paired with San Francisco and UTSA in the second round.
