Ragin' Cajuns Make Final Tune-Up Prior To Sun Belt Championships

Alfred, Meche lead men's team to third-place finish; Coleman paces women's team for third straight meet

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Key Alfred and Conner Meche each recorded top-20 finishes on the men's side while freshman Emoni Coleman placed 22nd overall in the women's race to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country team at the Little Rock Invitational on Saturday at War Memorial Park.
 
Louisiana, making its final tune-up prior to next month's Sun Belt Conference Championships, finished third overall in the men's 8-kilometer race with 99 points and finishing behind Central Arkansas (22) and Little Rock (56) in the 12-team field. The Ragin' Cajuns, who were missing a pair of key runners in the women's 5-kilometer event, finished seventh overall in the 12-team field with 169 points.
 
Alfred covered the men's course for Louisiana in 27:40.3 to finish 16th overall and record his fifth career top-20 finish. Meche crossed the finish line in 27:53.4 to post his second career top-20 performance for the Ragin' Cajuns with Stanley Limoh (28:08.5) finishing 23rd, Jonathan Kimutai (28:33.4) 32nd and freshman Samuel Avants (28:59.2) 39th.
 
Rashid Reese was 41st overall (29:12.4) for Louisiana with Chandler Burns finishing 49th (30:00.2), Solomon Brent 63rd (30:58.1) and Riley Plunkett 78th (31:53.7).
 
Coleman paced the Ragin' Cajuns women's team for the third straight meet, crossing the finish line in 20:13.4 to finish 22nd overall.
 
Ally McCulley finished 29th overall (20:49.3) for Louisiana with freshman Kelly Goff finishing 41st (21:32.2), Alexa Breaux 45th (21:40.7) and freshman Meredith Hebert 59th (22:39.6). Kate Ferguson posted a time of 23:20.6 to finish 69th for the Ragin' Cajuns with Alivia Johnson finishing 71st (23:36.6).
 
Louisiana will next compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Nov. 2 at Nash Farm Battlefield Park in Hampton, Ga.
