Youthful Cajuns look to build off solid performance at Samford
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team remains in state for the first of two consecutive meets when it heads west to Lake Charles on Friday to compete at the McNeese Indoor Invite at the McNeese Rec Complex.

Action begins at 11 a.m., with field events before running events start at 4:30 p.m. Live results, courtesy of McNeese, will be available at RaginCajuns.com. Louisiana will join host McNeese along with Grambling, Huston-Tillotson, LeTourneau, Loyola-New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Texas A&M-Kingsville and ULM.

Louisiana, which will remain in-state when it competes at the LSU Bayou Bengal on Feb. 1, earned three first-place finishes at the Samford Invitational as Kyle Baudoin (men's pole vault), Reagann Leleux (women's pole vault) and Frankie Griffin (women's high jump) each claimed their respective events.

The Ragin' Cajuns added six second-place performances with seven Louisiana freshmen posting top-6 finishes in their events.

Baudoin, who cleared 16-10 ¾ last week, enters the McNeese meet ranked No. 2 in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 35 on the NCAA Indoor Performance List. Freshman John Joseph, who earned a pair of top-4 finishes last week, is ranked third overall in the SBC in the triple jump (48-5 ½) and is eighth in the long jump (23-1 ¼).

Dominique Williams (56-8 ¾) and Graham Sokol (56-4), who helped Louisiana to a 2-3 finish in the weight throw last week, are ranked fifth and seventh, respectively, in the SBC with Williams recording a toss of 56-8 ¾ and Sokol 56-4.

Hannes Burger fueled a strong performance in the mile run for Louisiana, posting the top time in the SBC this season (4:17.03) with Jonathan Kimutai (4:20.45) and Stanley Limoh (4:20.97) ranked fourth and fifth.

Kimmie Rushford, coming off an indoor best in the women's pole vault (11-11 ¾), enters the meet ranked No. 3 in the SBC with newcomer Shalei Matthews ranked sixth overall in the women's triple jump (37-9 ¼).
