LAFAYETTE – Riding a two-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak, Louisiana Women's Basketball (4-11, 2-2 SBC) welcomes to the CAJUNDOME the ULM Warhawks (7-8, 1-3 SBC) for a Saturday afternoon in-state showdown with the game scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN/FOLLOW: Saturday's game will be televised on Cox Sports TV with Dan McDonald (play-by-play) and Lawana Stokes (analyst) handling the calling duties. Steve Peloquin will handle the radio call, with the game being broadcast on ESPN 1420AM. Live stats will be provided by the Louisiana Athletic Department and they can be found by clicking here.
PREVIEWING THE GAME: Louisiana, who won the meetings between the two programs last season, comes into Saturday's game having won the previous eight games between the Ragin' Cajuns and Warhawks. A win from Louisiana would extend its current winning streak to three games and give Louisiana a 3-0 record at home in conference play.
All-time ULM leads the series 43-15, with this being the 59th meeting all-time between Louisiana and ULM. A win from Louisiana would be the fourth-straight win at home against ULM and push its winning streak to nine games, stretching back to 2015.
REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: Louisiana won its second-straight conference game with a strong defensive performance taking down Georgia Southern, 59-48, at the CAJUNDOME on Jan. 10. The Ragin' Cajuns held the Eagles to 23 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the best defensive performance with at least 20 attempts since the season opener against Lamar.
The 23 percent three-point field goal percentage Louisiana allowed, is the lowest that Louisiana has held a Sun Belt opponent to, with a minimum of 20 attempts, since holding Texas State to 22 percent three-point field goal percentage on Jan. 20, 2018. And the 48 points that Louisiana held Georgia Southern to was the second-time in the last three meetings between the two programs that Louisiana held the Eagles to exactly 48 points.
Through the game Louisiana had 25 points off of turnovers, the most in conference play this season and the most in conference play period since scoring 28 points off turnovers against Arkansas State on Mar. 1, 2018.
Louisiana was led in scoring by freshman guard Brandi Williams who tied a career-high with 25 points, while freshmen guard Andrea Cournoyer added 14 points of her own. While on the boards Doucet lead Louisiana with seven rebounds and redshirt freshmen Kristen Daniels had a team-high two steals.
RAGIN' CAJUNS BRICKWALL: Over the weekend of Jan. 10-12, Louisiana gave up an average of 51.0 points per game. That total was the best in the Sun Belt for that weekend in terms of total points given up.
WILLIAMS HAS IMPRESSED: Williams has been impressive through Louisiana's first 15 games, scoring 11.6 points per game, the second most on the team, while shooting .388 percent from the field. The 11.6 ppg., rank Williams second on the team in scoring and when looking at the Sun Belt Conference, Williams is the leading scorer among freshmen.
AVERAGING A DOUCET SPECIAL: Sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet has been extremely consistent over the first two-plus months of the season. She is currently averaging a double-double, scoring 13.5 points per game and grabbing 10.1 rebounds per game. Doucet's numbers, 12th in scoring and second in rebounding, means that she is the only player in the Sun Belt that averaged a double-double over the non-conference portion of the season.
LOUISIANA FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN KEY: Louisiana's four freshmen have played key parts on the court over the Ragin' Cajuns' 15 games played so far. Louisiana's freshmen have averaged 29.1 points per game total, which is just under half of the 60.9 points per game that Louisiana is averaging as a team and the four freshmen are shooting .372 percent playing a key part the team shooting percentage of .381.
SNAPPING A SKID: Louisiana's 57-54 win over Georgia State (Jan. 10) snapped a
nine-game losing streak, which extended back to Louisiana's last win against Jackson State on Nov. 19. It was the longest losing streak under head coach Garry Brodhead since his first season at the helm in 2012-13 when Louisiana dropped 11-straight games.
WHAT THE WARHAWKS BRING: ULM enters the game with Louisiana having dropped its last game against Georgia State on Saturday, Jan. 12, 56-41. Overall ULM has dropped three out of its last four games, with its lone conference win coming on a buzzer beater over Georgia Southern on Jan. 10. Going back to Dec. 14, ULM has won only two games over an eight-game stretch, with wins coming over Georgia Southern (Jan. 10) and Arkansas-Monticello (Dec. 30, 2018).
ULM's 58.1 points per game allowed ranks the Warhawks second in the conference and 58th in the NCAA. While the Warhawks' defensive field goal percentage of .373 also puts them second in the Sun Belt and 76th in the country.
