SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Louisiana baseball team is set to close out its 2018 regular season road slate this weekend as the Ragin' Cajuns head to Texas State for a three-game series at Bobcat Ballpark starting Friday at 6 p.m.

Game two of the series between the Bobcats and Cajuns is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, while the two clubs close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday in the series finale.

Louisiana enters the series a half game back of Little Rock for the Sun Belt Conference West Division lead. The Ragin' Cajuns are currently in sixth place overall in the league three games ahead of Texas State and UT Arlington with two series remaining in the season.

Stoelke Named To Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List

Senior Logan Stoelke was named one of 41 players on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List. Stoelke joins Justin Garcia of Little Rock as the only pitchers from the Sun Belt Conference to earn the distinction.

Stoelke ranks third in the SBC with eight saves while also posting a 3-0 record. The right-hander has a team-best 1.35 ERA in 26.2 innings with 27 strikeouts. Stoelke is limiting opponents to a .136 average allowing a run to score in only three of his 17 appearances. He has also allowed just three of 14 inherited runners to score this year.

Louisiana holds a 21-10 edge in the all-time series against Texas State having won seven of the last nine meetings. Last season the Ragin' Cajuns took two of three from the Bobcats sandwiching 8-7 and 4-3 wins around an 8-4 loss. Six of the last 10 contests in the series have been decided by two or less runs.

Junior Daniel Lahare ranks ninth in the Sun Belt with a .326 average on the year. Lahare is riding a 10-game hit streak registering a .465 average (20-for-43) with six doubles, two triples, two home runs, six RBI and 16 runs scored during the streak. The junior is slugging .837 with a .510 on base percentage in the last 10 games.

Senior Colten Schmidt continues to pace the Ragin' Cajuns on the mound with a league-best 1.64 ERA. Schmidt ranks fifth nationally in WHIP (0.77) and seventh in walks per nine innings surrendering only nine walks in 88 innings pitched.

Texas State (23-24-1, 11-13 SBC) comes into the series having lost five of its last six contests including two of three at Arkansas State last weekend.

The Bobcats rank seventh in the Sun Belt in hitting with a .259 average including 77 doubles, seven triples and 31 home runs. Texas State is averaging 5.2 runs per game which also ranks seventh in the SBC.
