Louisiana posts nine personal-bests on opening day of meet

AUBURN, Ala. – Lindsay LaGarde posted the third-fastest time in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in school history while Richard Delphin posted the third-best mark in the hammer throw in school history to pace the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team after the first day of the Tiger Track Classic on Friday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track facility.
 
Women's long jumpers Juliette Smith and Alex Morrow recorded a pair of Louisiana's nine personal-bests during the first day of competition. Sven Glueck posted a personal-best in the men's long jump for the Ragin' Cajuns, the freshman duo of Andre Bellard and Conner Meche each posted personal-bests in the 5,000-meter run and the duo of Jonathan Kimutai and Regan Lemaire each recorded a personal-best in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.

LaGarde, who posted the then fifth-fastest time (11:41.71) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last season, shaved over 23 seconds off her personal-best after finishing sixth overall in 11:18.42 to move ahead of Casey Brown (11:35.45 in 2008) and Jenna Picou (11:26.78 in 2011) in school history.
 
Delphin, who recorded the fourth-best mark in the hammer throw (181-8) last season, finished fourth overall for the Ragin' Cajuns after recording a personal-best throw of 183-7. The junior was one of two Ragin' Cajuns to finish in the top-10 in the event as teammate Dominique Williams earned a ninth-place finish at 161-0.
 
Smith earned a 15th-place finish in the women's long jump for Louisiana after recording a personal-best at 18-5 ¾. Morrow, who previously cleared 17-9 in the long jump at last month's Bobcat Invitational, cleared 17-9 ½ for the Ragin' Cajuns to finish 22nd overall.
 
In the men's long jump, Glueck posted a mark of 22-3 ½ to finish 21st for the Ragin' Cajuns with fellow multi-athlete Chandler Mixon finishing 29th at 20-9 ¾. Sean Bouzigard, competing in the men's javelin, narrowly missed his personal-best (189-6) after finishing fifth overall at 189-5.
 
Kimutai and Lemaire were two of three Louisiana runners to post top-10 finishes in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase as Kimutai finished sixth overall (9:34.02) and Lemaire eighth (9;58.39). Teammate Dylan Heck earned a seventh-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns, crossing the finish line in 9:52.49.
 
Bellard covered the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 15:53.31 to finish 21st for Louisiana with Meche clocking a time of 16:14.08 to place 25th.  
 
Freshman MacKenzie Marze placed fifth overall for Louisiana behind four Auburn throwers in the women's javelin with a mark of 145-7. Madison Meche placed 15th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns at 113-9.
 
In the women's hammer throw, Tisay Woodhouse posted a mark of 163-10 to finish 13th overall with Kimberly Rushford (11-7 ¾) finishing sixth in the women's pole vault and Alexa Johnson (11-7 ¾) seventh.
