STATESBORO, Ga. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to open Sun Belt Conference play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT as the Cajuns face Georgia Southern at J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Eagles continue the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT before closing the weekend out on Sunday with an early 10 a.m. CT first pitch due to travel.

The Series

Georgia Southern owns a slight 6-5 edge in the all-time series with the Ragin' Cajuns having won the last three meetings in the series. The Eagles claimed a 7-6 victory in 11 innings at the Sun Belt Conference tournament a year ago to give Louisiana an early exit from the tournament.

The Cajuns are 3-2 against Georgia Southern away from Lafayette, La. winning the only series in Statesboro in 2016.

Scouting Louisiana

Louisiana (7-9) claimed the first game of its five-game road trip at Tulane on Tuesday night picking up a 5-2 victory in 11 innings. The Ragin' Cajuns had a season-best 13 hits in the victory.

Junior Gavin Bourgeois comes into the series on a seven-game hit streak and has reached base in 11 straight contests as he has a team-best .306 average with two doubles and six RBI. Hunter Kasuls and Kennon Fontenot are tied for the team lead in RBI with nine, while Kasuls has two of the squad's five home runs.

Scouting Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern (7-10) comes into the series having lost four straight after a midweek defeat to Mercer 11-8 on Wednesday. The Eagles are 5-3 at home this season having dropping a series to Elon two weeks ago.

Offensively, Georgia Southern is hitting .232 with 29 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. The Eagles are averaging 4.9 runs per game and are paced by Matt Anderson who is hitting .308 with four doubles, a home run and five RBI. Newcomer Chandler Corley has a team-best 13 RBI and two home runs despite hitting .224.

The Cajuns close out their five-game road swing at McNeese on March 21 with a 6 p.m. contest. Louisiana returns to M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park March 23-25 to host Troy in the conference home opener.
