Louisiana Sweeps DH At PVAMU Without Dropping A Point

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Two wins on the day from senior Kelly Drew and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia energized the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team to a doubleheader sweep of the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, 4-0, 4-0, at the PVAMU Tennis Facility.
The pair of wins improved the Cajuns record to 10-5, while the Lady Panther's record dropped to 2-14. It extends the Cajuns winning streak against the Lady Panthers to five straight, with Louisiana having won the previous three times the two schools met on the court.
Senior Elena Sava clinched the first match of the day and Garcia clinched the second as Louisiana dropped only one set through the whole day, losing one of the doubles matches in the second match. Freshman Floriane Picaut got a lone win on the day winning in the second match of the day.
MATCH #1
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): At No. 3, Drew and Garcia got the Cajuns off on the winning foot, taking their match 6-1 over the Lady Panthers' Maxwell and Lackey. And Louisiana quickly wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 when Picaut and freshman Dana Radovanovic took down PVAMU's Ruhl and Findley to give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Drew snagged a win at No. 1 to get singles started, taking down PVAMU's Stacey Lackey in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. And at No. 6 Garcia posted the same score line, taking down the Lady Panther's Timara Maxwell, 6-2, 6-0, to quickly put the Cajuns up 3-0.
Louisiana clinched the match at No. 3 when senior Elena Sava took down PVAMU's Jimena Duran-Castellanos in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to give the Cajuns a dominating 4-0 win in the first half of the day's doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Drew and Garcia got their second win of the day in doubles, when at No. 3 they got the Cajuns off to a great start beating the pairing of Stacey Lackey and Jessica Lackey, 6-3. But PVAMU would get their lone win on the entire day taking the next match at No. 2, 6-4, when Ruhl and Findley beat the Cajuns' pairing of Picaut and Radovanovic, 6-4.
Louisiana bounced right back, at No. 1, when Johnson and Sava battled through a tough match against PVAMU's Rama and Aranguiz, winning 7-6 to clinch the doubles point for the Cajuns to send them into singles up 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Picaut got the Cajuns a quick win in singles with a straight set win at No. 2 over PVAMU's Duran-Castellanos, 6-1, 6-2 and her win was followed by Drew at No. 1 whose straight set win, 6-2, 6-3, over Stacey Lackey to give the Cajuns a 3-0 lead in the match.
At No. 5 Garcia clinched the Cajuns sweep on the day with a straight set win, 6-4, 6-1, over the Lady Panther's Maxwell. It gave the Cajuns their second 4-0 win on the day and locked up the doubleheader sweep.
NOTEWORTHY: Drew has now won five straight matches, all at No. 1, and her singles record improves to 8-3; Garcia improves to 8-5 in singles; Picaut now sits at 7-4 in singles; Sava improves to 4-7 in singles.
