CAJUNS FALL JUST SHORT TO THE LADY TECHSTERS: Louisiana was going for their seventh straight win to start the season, but they fell just short against Louisiana Tech at home on Sunday, Feb. 4 when they lost 4-3. After taking the doubles point, the Cajuns could only take two wins in singles, at No. 1 from senior Kelly Drew and at No. 2 from freshman Floriane Picaut. Louisiana dropped their matches starting at No. 3 and down the line, with the clinching match coming in a three-set battle at No. 5 where senior Abby Johnson pushed things to three-sets before falling to her opponent.
PICAUT CAN'T LOSE: Playing mainly No. 2 singles for the first week of the season, Picaut has yet to drop a match this spring and her record sits at 6-0. While she has remained undefeated in doubles with her freshman partner Dana Radovanovic, as they sit at 3-0 after a week of action.
DREW HAS BEEN NO.1: Drew has been sitting at the top of the Cajuns lineup for the majority of the first week, and she's been a strong pillar for the Cajuns. She currently sits at 3-1, with two wins at No. 1, and she's won her last two matches. In doubles, when partnered with sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia she sits at 2-1 and the two of them have won their previous two matches together.
WHAT THE CARDINALS BRING: The Cardinals enter the match with an 0-2 record having lost at Houston (Jan. 28) 6-1 to open up the season, and they dropped their home opener on Feb. 4 to UTSA 4-3. They're coming off a 5-19 season, and this is the second straight season the two schools have met with the Cajuns having won the previous two matches.
WHAT THE AGGIES BRING: The match against the Aggies is the first time the two teams have met on the court in school history. Texas A&M sits at 6-0 so far this season, having not played a match away from College Station just yet, and in those six matches they've only dropped three points in total.
They finished the 2017 season ranked nationally at No. 16 and they advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Although not ranked as a team, the Aggies do bring one woman ranked nationally into the match. That woman is Domenica Gonzalez who's ranked No. 87 in the nation and she's been playing their No. 1 singles.
