Louisiana Women's Tennis Lose At Texas A&M

2/10/2018 6:40:00 PM | Women's Tennis

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After a lengthy delay, and a venue change from outside to indoors, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team lost 6-0 to the Texas A&M Aggies at the Bryan Tennis Indoor Center.

The loss, Louisiana's second straight, drops the Cajuns record to 6-2, while the Aggies improved to 7-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): At No. 1 singles Cajuns senior Kelly Drew was matched up with No. 87 ranked Domenica Gonzalez and Drew fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.  Louisiana freshman Dana Radovanovic was next to fall, when at No. 3 she lost to the Aggies' Eva Paalma, 6-0, 6-4.  Senior Elena Sava lost at No. 4, to Texas A&M's Riley McQuaid in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 to put the score at 3-0 in favor of the Aggies with half the singles matches completed.

The next match to finish was at No. 2, when freshman Floriane Picaut had the longest match of the day, as she put up a great fight with her match against Macarena Olivares going three sets, before Picaut lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.  Picaut won the first set, and she just about locked things up in the second set, before losing a close battle that forced the third and deciding set that Picaut dropped to lose the match.

Texas A&M wrapped up the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, when Cajuns sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia lost 6-1, 6-1 to Iulia Ivascu at No. 5 and Cajuns senior Abby Johnson lost to the Aggies' Dorthea Faa-Hviding 6-0, 6-3 to finish up the match with the score at 6-0.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Needing to get their match against Incarnate Word restarted within 48 hours, per NCAA rules, to keep the doubles point they earned on Friday, Feb. 9, Louisiana will return to San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 11, with the goal of resuming their match against the Cardinals.
