LAFAYETTE – It's been a week since the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team has taken the courts, but on Thursday, Mar. 1 at 3 p.m., the Cajuns return to action as they'll host the Sun Belt Conference's South Alabama Jaguars in a late midweek matchup at Cajun Courts.
HOW TO FOLLOW THE MATCH: Live stats will be provided via RaginCajuns.com and links can be found on twitter, on the home page of the website and on the women's tennis schedule page.
LAST TIME OUT: Louisiana bounced back from a 7-0 loss at McNeese on Feb. 18, with a 4-3 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at Cajun Courts on Thursday, Feb. 22. AMCC entered the match as the two-time defending Southland Conference Champions and the Cajuns were in for a fight from the start.
          Â
Freshman Floriane Picaut clinched things at No. 2 with a hard fought three-set win after she was joined by senior Kelly Drew and freshman Dana Radovanovic in winning singles matches. After taking the doubles point the Cajuns needed all three of those wins to hold off the charging Islanders to give the Cajuns their first win over the Islanders since Feb. 18, 2010.
GOING WITH THE FLO: Picaut has been a leader for the Cajuns midway through her first season with Louisiana, having clinched two Cajuns wins, and she's currently holding the best record for the Cajuns sitting at 6-2. In doubles Picaut and Radovanovic have settled in at No. 2 doubles and again Picaut has made her presence felt. The two of them are 4-1 together and they've given the Cajuns a big advantage going into matches were doubles start things off.
CAJUN COURTS DOUBLE AS THE FRIENDLY CONFINES: So far this season the Cajuns have been a force to be reckoned with at home. They're 7-1 at home through the first two months of the season which is already more wins than they've had at home for the past four seasons. The last time the Cajuns had more than seven wins at Cajun Courts was following the 2013 season when they finished 10-7 in Lafayette.
WHAT THE JAGUARS BRING: South Alabama enters the match against the Cajuns sitting at 8-1 overall and they're riding a three-match winning streak into Thursday's match. Yu Fujoka, playing mainly No. 3-6 singles, is leading the Jaguars with an 8-0 singles record in the spring and the Jags No. 1, Alexandria Stiteler, is undefeated as well sitting at 6-0 all won at the top of the lineup.
          Â
Louisiana lost last year's match between the two schools, 6-1, and it's been a while since the Cajuns took down last year's runners-up in the Sun Belt Championships, having lost the last eight matches contested between the two schools. The last time the Cajuns beat the Jaguars, was on Apr. 22, 2011 at the Sun Belt Championships and the last time Louisiana won in Lafayette was in that same 2011 year, when they took down the Jaguars on Feb. 5, 2011.
