Women's Tennis Heads To McNeese

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team (7-2) will stay on the road as they jump on the bus and head west to Lake Charles, La., to face the McNeese State Cowgirls on Sunday, Feb. 18 to wrap up the weekend.

START TIMES FOR THE WEEKEND: The Cajuns match in Lake Charles, that's scheduled to get going at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.

CAJUNS SPLIT FIRST ROAD TEST: Louisiana split their first road trip of the season, beating Incarnate Word, 4-0, and losing to Texas A&M, 6-0.  The Cajuns did have a bit of an adventure to finishing the two matches and they caught up on their travel over the weekend.

The match at Incarnate Word started on Friday, Feb. 9 but finished on Sunday, Feb. 11 with the match against the Aggies sandwiched in-between.  The reason for that was because of the weather wreaking havoc on the match at Incarnate Word.   After taking the doubles point against the Cardinals the match was canceled due to the rain.  But per ITA rules if the match could be restarted and finished within 48 hours the Cajuns could keep that doubles point.

Therefore, Louisiana quickly sped the three plus hours northeast to College Station, Texas to play their match against Texas A&M before turning right around and returning to San Antonio to finish what they started against the Cardinals.  The clinching win against Incarnate Word came from senior Elena Sava, at No. 4, and she was joined by freshman Floriane Picaut (No. 3) and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia (No. 5) in getting singles wins to make the back and forth weekend worth it in the end.

WHAT THE COWGIRLS BRING: McNeese, who's played one match so far this season beating Louisiana Tech in Lake Charles, 7-0, on Feb. 12 so they enter the weekend at 1-0.  But the Cowgirls do have a busy weekend playing two matches before the Cajuns come into town.  The first being against Prairie View A&M on Friday, Feb. 16 at home before the Cowgirls then host UTSA on Saturday, Feb. 17.

All-time the record between the two schools is 12-18 with McNeese holding the advantage over Louisiana.  The two teams have met on the court at least once every season since 2003, with the Cowgirls taking the previous four meetings.  Louisiana hasn't won since 2013 against McNeese and the Cajuns will look to snap that streak on Sunday.
