Louisiana Men's Tennis duo of Arthur Libaud and Pearse Dolan take down No. 36 in the nation on their way to a semifinals berth
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Arthur Libaud and junior Pearse Dolan have reached the semifinals of the ITA Southern Regional Championships in doubles, winning four matches along the way, including taking down a nationally ranked duo, placing the Louisiana Men's Tennis pairing two wins away from being the Southern Regional Doubles Champions.
LIBAUD AND DOLAN ARE ON FIRE: The Ragin' Cajuns pairing started the weekend with an 8-1 win over Auburn's Durham and Rushin to advance to the second round. On Saturday, the Louisiana duo then took down Alabama's doubles team of Fischer and Zhou, 8-5 to set up a Round of 16 matchup with a nationally ranked duo.
In the Round of 16 Libaud and Dolan faced off with Tulane's pair of Akos Kotorman and Ewan Moore who entered the weekend seeded third and they hold a national doubles ranking of 36. The Tulane pair lived up to their ranking, but Libaud and Dolan dug in deep and the match had to be decided by a tiebreaker. Louisiana's pairing fought through the tiebreaker and came away with a big 8-7(5) win on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals.
Next up for Libaud and Dolan was Louisiana State's Kozlov and Watson where once again the Louisiana pair had to play all the way into a tiebreaker. But building off of the confidence they earned in the previous match, Libaud and Dolan survived the tiebreaker winning 8-7(5) to advance to Monday's semifinal match.
NEXT UP FOR LOUISIANA'S DUO: Libaud and Dolan, in the semifinals, will face another ranked pair when they take on Mississippi State's Niclas Braun and Giovanni Oradini. Braun and Oradini entered the tournament as the number two seeded doubles pair and they currently hold the No. 7 doubles ranking in the country.
The match will start at 1:30 p.m. and if Libaud and Dolan win, the championship match will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 23, with the start time to be determined.
