LAFAYETTE – After a weekend at the 2018 Florida State Spring Invitational the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis teams hits the road again, with a weekend trip around Texas, first they'll face off against the No. 25 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas and they'll wrap up the trip with a visit to Houston, Texas to face the Rice Owls on Sunday, Jan. 21 with that match starting at 11 a.m.
          Â
Louisiana is 1-2 overall entering the weekend as they'll look to get on a run, having won their last match at the FSU Invite against Florida A&M. The matchup with Texas Tech will be the second match against a ranked opponent for the Cajuns in the first two weekends of the season.
CAJUNS OPEN UP AT FSU: Louisiana went 1-2 at the FSU Spring Invite, losing to the then ranked No. 21 Florida State Seminoles, 4-0, to open up their season and they followed that up with a tough loss to Mercer, 4-3. The Cajuns won their final match against Florida A&M, 4-1, to finish off the tournament with their first win of the 2018 season.
DOLAN HAS A SOLID WEEKEND: Cajuns sophomore Pearse Dolan had a good first weekend of the 2018 season. He went 2-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to get his season off strong.
WHAT THE RED RAIDERS BRING: Texas Tech enters the matchup with the Cajuns ranked No. 25 in the nation, having dropped one spot from No. 24 in the most recent rankings. They're 6-1, riding a five-match winning streak, with their only loss of the season coming against the then ranked No. 21 FSU Seminoles.Â
          Â
The Red Raiders bring two nationally ranked doubles pairs, with Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya ranked No. 29 and Conner Curry and Artem Kapshuck ranked No. 33. On the singles side, they don't bring any ranked players into the match, and during the fall sophomore Jamie Fraser took down Texas Tech's No. 1 Alex Sendegeya in the first round of the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic.
WHAT THE OWLS BRING: Rice has split their first two matches of the 2018 season, having won their previous match against Prairie View A&M, 6-1, on Jan. 14. They'll bring a 1-1 record into what is the sixth straight season the Cajuns have matched up with Rice, going back to 2012. This year's matchup will be the first time since 2015 that the Cajuns have faced a non-ranked Rice team.
