LAFAYETTE, La. – The 14th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to open a five-game week with a pair of midweek contests against 14th-ranked Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech starting Tuesday at 6 p.m. as the Cajuns head to Pete Taylor Park to face the Golden Eagles.
 
Following the matchup with USM, the Ragin' Cajuns then return home to host the Bulldogs in a 6 p.m. contest at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
 
Fans can hear both games live on ESPN 1420-AM with Jay Walker making the call. Wednesday's contest against La Tech will also be broadcast live on myAcadianaTV and simulcast on ESPN3.com. Live scoring and video is available on RaginCajuns.com.
 
Louisiana (27-13, 12-6 Sun Belt) is coming off of a series win over Texas State, the squad's eighth series win of the season. The Cajuns won the opening game of the series against the Bobcats 5-1. After falling to Texas State in a close decision 2-1, the Ragin' Cajuns shutout the Bobcats 1-0 to claim the series.
 
The Cajuns moved up in four of the five polls this weekend. Louisiana's highest ranking came in at No. 14 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll. The Ragin' Cajuns biggest jump in rankings came in the USA Today Coaches poll moving up eight spots to No. 16. The team also jumped up six spots in the D1Baseball poll to No. 18, and is ranked No. 23 in the Baseball America poll.
 
Sophomore right-hander Evan Guillory (4-3, 3.10 ERA) will make the start for the Ragin' Cajuns against Southern Miss. Guillory has picked up a win in his last three outings and has four quality starts this season.
 
Offensively, Kyle Clement paces the squad hitting .360 after going 7-for-14 at the plate last week. Brian Mills continues to lead the squad with 26 RBI, while Joe Robbins is second with 25 and a team-best nine home runs.
 
The Cajuns lead the all-time series with the Golden Eagles with a 24-19 edge. Louisiana has won the last five meetings in the series all coming at Pete Taylor Park including a 9-5 victory over USM on Feb. 22,2014 to complete the series sweep.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns hold a 78-63 lead in the all-time series against Louisiana Tech. Louisiana is 27-9 against La Tech under head coach Tony Robichaux. The Bulldogs claimed the only meeting between the two teams this season winning 6-2 on Feb. 24 in Ruston, La.
 
Southern Miss (29-12, 14-4 C-USA) picked up a series win over Rice last weekend to climb back into the national rankings. The Golden Eagles played three straight one-run games against the Owls winning 2-1 twice. USM dropped their last midweek game to Tulane falling 12-0 on the road.
 
Freshman left-hander Stevie Powers (0-1, 4.29 ERA) will make the start for the Golden Eagles. Jake Sandlin leads a Southern Miss offense that is hitting .305 on the season as a team. Sandlin has a team-best .395 average with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 23 RBI. Tim Lynch has six home runs and a team-best 43 RBI for the Golden Eagles.
 
Louisiana Tech (23-13, 10-8 C-USA) has won five of its last six contests including a series win over Old Dominion this past weekend. The Bulldogs host McNeese State on Tuesday night before coming to The Tigue on Wednesday.
 
 La Tech is hitting .289 as a team with 67 doubles, 14 triples and 23 home runs. Brothers Jonathan and Jordan Washam lead the club in average. Jonathan has a team-best .397 average with seven doubles and 19 RBI, while Jordan is hitting .337 with three home runs and 22 RBI.
 
Following the midweek contests, the Ragin' Cajuns will head to Arlington, Texas for a three-game series against UT Arlington starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
