Cajuns To Open SBC Tennis Championships Against UTA

No. 4-seeded Cajuns look to win first title since 2014
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns tennis team will open play in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Friday in New Orleans when both the men's and women's team will face UT Arlington in quarterfinals competition.
First serve for the women's match is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the City Park Tennis Center with the men's match slated for 3 p.m. at the UNO Tennis Courts.

Louisiana (17-10), which claimed the 2014 SBC title and automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Ragin' Cajuns have won their last four matches, and eight of their last 10 heading into their first meeting with UTA (15-10) since a 4-1 win in the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The winner of Friday's match will advance to face tops-seeded and 58th-ranked Georgia State in the semifinals on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Senior Edgar Lopez has won a team-high 14 matches in singles play on the season to lead Louisiana with freshman Arthur Libaud (12-5), Coleman Wahlborg (11-9), Vlad Kramarov (11-10) and Eric Perez (10-9) all recording double-digit wins.
In doubles play, Lopez and Perez have won seven straight matches for Louisiana and are 17-6 on the season. The doubles tandem of Libaud and Will Huyton, currently ranked No. 6 in the Southern Region, has won their last three matches and are 10-9 on the season.
Carlos Arbiza and Daniel Armengol have each won a team-high 15 matches for UTA with Jhonathan Gonzalez (11-12) and Guanateme Nuez (12-10) pacing the top of the lineup for the Mavs. UTA dropped matches to nationally-ranked programs SMU, TCU and Texas A&M before closing out the regular-season last week with a win over Division II Midwestern State.

Once the remaining institutions are seeded based on the lowest cumulative ITA score of top three wins, beginning with the highest seeded team outside of the top 75 ITA and moving downward, institutions which are stacked will be moved up or down an unlimited number of times so long as stacked with an opponent to which there was head to head competition
