Jeffrey adds Aussie, New Zealand native for 2016-17
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis coach Mark Jeffrey announced on Friday the addition of a pair of newcomers for the 2016-17 season.
Signing a National Letter of Intent to play for the Ragin' Cajuns are Rob Reynolds (Hastings, New Zealand) and Jamie Fraser (Sydney, Australia).
"Let me just say that these two young men are going to be difference makers," Jeffrey said. "They are going to change the identity of our team. The work ethic that they will display will inspire the rest of their team mates. The culture will automatically change to one of the hardest work possible is the only way. I am simply ecstatic about these two young men."
Reynolds, the No. 2 ranked junior in the New Zealand Boy's 18's, reached the finals of the New Zealand Boy's 18-and-under Nationals in 2015 and was a singles finalist and doubles champion in the 2015 Grade 5 Hamilton ITF.
A Top-200 level competitor in ITF, Reynolds added a doubles championship at the Grade 4 Auckland Tournament in 2015 and was a finalist in doubles in Grade 5 doubles in 2014.
"Rob Reynolds is a very hard working young man that will shape the UL Program with his character on and off the court," Jeffrey said. "When I recruited Rob, the first thing that popped out at me was the desire in his eyes. You could see that this guy just loved to play tennis. That's what we need at UL … a guy that is in love with playing tennis and enjoying every moment out on the court."
Fraser finished third overall at the Australian Nationals in the 16-under division and reached the semifinals of the 2014 South Pacific Junior Open Championships in Fiji. The Aussie reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 Hong Kong ITF Junior Tennis Tournament after picking up three victories in the qualifying draw.
As a prepster at Knox Grammar School, Fraser helped New South Wales claim the Australian Schoolboy's Teams Event.
"Jamie has gone through a great deal of adversity over the past two years which has molded him into a very strong individual," Jeffrey said. "His mental toughness through his journey has actually prepared him very well for the rigors of college tennis. I know Jamie has very high character, will work extremely hard, and again just loves tennis."
