Women's Tennis Set for Western Kentucky Match Tuesday

LAFAYETTE -- Fresh off a 4-0 win against Grambling State last Sunday, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team returns to the court this Tuesday, March 8 against Western Kentucky. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. at Cajun Courts.

The Cajuns (7-6) come into Tuesday's match with a 7-6 record this spring, with four of those wins coming at home. Louisiana has won two of their past three matches overall.

Senior Melissa Burckhartt and sophomore Kelly Drew are tied for the team lead with six wins apiece in singles play. Burckhartt is 4-1 at the No. 4 spot, while five of Drew's six victories have come at No. 1.

Louisiana possesses a balanced doubles attack, with three of their four teams with six victories. As a team, the Cajuns are 19-11 in doubles play this season. Burckhartt and Drew are 6-3, sophomore Abby Johnson and junior Alexandra Way are 6-5 and senior Juliette Clement and sophomore Elena Sava are 6-3.

Western Kentucky comes to Lafayette with a record of 5-3 and are 5-2 on the road this season. The Lady Toppers have won three matches in a row and five of their last six overall.

Sophomore Elpida Malamou leads their singles group with a 7-1 record, while junior Andreanna Christopoulou and sophomore Violetta Shatalova both have six singles victories.
