Men's Tennis Falls at 50th Ranked Rice

HOUSTON - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team fell by a final of 4-0 at No. 50 Rice on Sunday morning at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The loss dropped the Cajuns back to a .500 record at 4-4 this spring.
"Give credit to Rice, they just outplayed us today mentally in the doubles," Ragin' Cajuns head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "We actually were the better team in doubles today, but their players stayed steady on the big points and we didn't.
"In singles today, we battled at three positions, but did not find a way back in the other three matches," Jeffrey added. "Credit Rice for closing us out mentally. We need to learn from today that we need to keep believing in situations and process to beat top-50 nationally-ranked teams."
In doubles, Rice's Adam Gustafsson and David Warren prevailed over UL's duo of senior Edgar Lopez and junior Eric Perez, 6-4 at No. 1. No. 2 doubles also went to Rice as Jamie Malik and Henrik Much defeated senior Jake Wynan and junior Coleman Wahlborg, 6-4.
At No. 4 singles, Warren came away victorious against Perez, 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, Emanuel Llamas defeated sophomore Vlad Kramarov, 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.
Rice ended the match at No. 2 singles where Gustafsson beat Wynan, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cajuns return home this Wednesday, Feb. 17 to face No. 65-ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at Cajun Courts.
