Cajuns Defeat Dillard In Exhibition Game, 78-52

LAFAYETTE – Simone Fields scored 24 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team to a 78-52 win over Dillard (La.) in an exhibition game on Saturday at Blackham Coliseum.
Louisiana (1-0) took a 4-2 lead on a layup by Fields with 7:26 left in the first quarter and the Cajuns never looked back.
"On the offensive side, she is really doing well," Brodhead said of Fields. "She is being very aggressive on the boards and doing what we asked."
Jasmine Thomas scored a layup to give the Cajuns an 8-4 lead with 5:47 left in the first quarter and spark a 15-1 run by Louisiana. Kimberly Burton's layup with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter gave the Cajuns a 21-5 lead.
Dillard (6-1) cut the Louisiana lead to 29-18 when Chelsea Verrett knocked down two free throws with 5:11 left in the second quarter.
Louisiana responded on a 13-1 run to close out the first half with a 42-19 lead.
The Cajuns continued the run in the second half and led 46-23 when Fields made a layup with 7:14 left in the third quarter. The Bleu Devils then scored seven straight points to trim the Louisiana lead to 46-33 with 5:45 left in the third quarter.
Louisiana went on a 10-4 run to give the Cajuns a 56-37 at the end of the third quarter.
The Cajuns led by as many as 29 in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Bleu Devils and seal the win.
"We are trying to find ourselves," Brodhead said. "We have some young kids that we are running in and out. We have different lineups and we need to get more comfortable with ourselves. I think it just takes time."
Gabby Alexander scored 11 points for Louisiana while Jaylyn Gordon added 10 points and Thomas had nine points for the Cajuns.
Verrett led Dillard with 12 points while Adriiana Jackson added eight points for the Bleu Devils.
Louisiana will face No. 1 Notre Dame on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in a 7 p.m. game at the Campbell Center in Houston, Texas.
