TROY, Ala. – Freshmen Wyatt Marks and Dylan Moore combined to post the first shutout of the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team blanked Texas State 3-0 on Saturday to force a winner-take-all semifinal game at Riddle-Pace Field.
The win improves the Cajuns to 37-21 on the season as the squad is 3-1 now at the SBC Tournament. The winner of the Cajuns/Bobcats matchup will face South Alabama in the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Marks was fantastic in the start as he equaled a season-best tossing seven scoreless innings while scattering four hits with eight strikeouts. Marks allowed just one runner past first base in the outing.
Moore was also solid as he moved one save away from tying the school record picking up his 10th save of the year in the contest. The right-hander was perfect in two innings while recording two strikeouts.
Texas State starter Cory Geisler was tabbed with his second loss of the year after giving up three runs on five hits in a career-high 6.1 innings. Geisler struck out three and walked just one in the contest.
Shortstop Blake Trahan and designated hitter Tyler Girouard each had two hits and drove in a run for the Ragin' Cajuns.
After failing to have a runner reach in the first three innings against Geisler, Trahan singled to lead off the fourth for the Cajuns and provide the first hit of the game. Later in the inning, Girouard drove a double off of the wall in right to score Trahan and give Louisiana a 1-0 lead. Left fielder Evan Powell added to the advantage as he drove a sac fly to deep left field to score second baseman Stefan Trosclair.
Trahan brought home the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out single to right.
