Women's Tennis Drops 4-1 Decision At ULM

MONROE, La. – Kelly Drew picked up a singles win, but ULM was too much throughout the lineup in taking a 4-1 decision over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team on Monday afternoon at Heard Stadium.
Drew, playing in her first match since March 1, ran her singles record to 7-2 on the season with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) win over Petra Horakova at No. 2 singles play. But that was the only point the Cajuns (3-11) could manage on the day as the Warhawks (8-4) took the doubles point and three more singles matches to hand UL its second loss in Sun Belt Conference play.
Nelo Phiri and Elena Sava pushed Horakova and Sophie Rufyikiri to the brink at the top doubles spot before falling (8-6), while ULM's Amy Olivier and Letha Gaigher clinched the doubles point with a (8-5) win over Drew and Lauren Dupuis on the No. 3 court.
The Warhawks then pulled out wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles to clinch the overall victory. Olivier got by Phiri (6-1, 6-3) in straight sets at the No. 1 slot, while Rufyikiri defeated Sava (6-0, 6-3) in No. 3 singles. Gaigher provided the deciding point at No. 6 singles with a (6-0, 6-2) win over Dupuis.
Louisiana will now return home for a home match on Wednesday against Lamar. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from Cajun Courts.
