Tulane Takes Down Cajuns, 4-0

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns played their fourth match in just seven days and did not have enough to overcome a fresh Tulane squad as the Green Wave picked up a 4-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.
The Green Wave, who had not played since a win over Wisconsin on Feb. 28, did not surrender a set and moved to 10-4 on the season. Meanwhile, the Cajuns fell to 3-10 and will not play again until a March 21 meeting with Texas State.
The game was originally scheduled to be played outdoors at Tulane's home court, but was moved indoors to the Hilton Riverside facility due to inclement weather.
Ipek Birol picked up the first point of the day with a (6-0, 6-1) win over Elena Sava on court two, folloewd by an identical (6-0, 6-1) win by Naz Karagoz over Alexandra Way on court three. Vanessa Nommensen then gave the Green Wave a 3-0 lead with a (6-4, 6-3) win at No. 3 singles before Jacqui Katz clinched the match with a (6-2, 6-0) win over Melissa Burckhartt at the No. 5 spot.
Nelo Phiri played well and was challenging the Green Wave's No. 1 player Nicky Stracar, dropping the first set 7-5 and being tied 5-5 in the second set before the match was left unfinished.
The Cajuns will now have 11 days off before next taking the court, doing so with a pair of conference matches via pod play in Monroe, La.
UL will open the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. match on March 21 against Texas State, followed by a March 22 meeting at 1:00 p.m. vs ULM.
