Cajuns in Top 10 For Fifth Straight Week

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball is ranked at No. 7 in the latest USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls, released on Tuesday, marking the fifth straight week in the Top 10.

Louisiana (17-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) is No. 7 in both polls for the second straight week. The Cajuns, preseason ranked No. 9, have been as high as No. 5 in the NFCA listing (Feb. 24) and No. 6 in ESPN/USA Softball (Feb. 24).

The current run of five straight weeks in the Top 10 is the program's longest stretch in the NFCA poll since a 10-week stretch in 2012 (March 6-May 15). It's the lengthiest stretch in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll since a nine-week stretch (March 12-May 7), also in 2012.

The Ragin' Cajuns are joined in the Top 10 of the NFCA poll by five SEC schools (Florida, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee), Oregon (Pac-12), Michigan (Big 10), Oklahoma (Big 12) and Florida State (ACC).

Michael Lotief's squad began Sun Belt Conference play last weekend in Mobile, Ala., winning 2-of-3 against No. 24/23 South Alabama. Kelsey Vincent and Leandra Maly combined for 10 hits while Jordan Wallace and Christina Hamilton posted complete game victories in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday that clinched the series victory.

The Ragin' Cajuns are back in action on Friday, March 13 for a 6 p.m., single game at Lamson Park that begins a Sun Belt series with UT Arlington. The series with UTA (March 13-14) marks the start of a nine-game homestand, which also includes Sun Belt series with Georgia Southern (March 16-17) and Troy (March 21-22).
