LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns returned home Friday and returned to their winning ways with a pair of victories over Georgia State and Xavier (La.) at Cajun Courts.
The Cajuns moved to 4-5 on the season and earned their first victories of the season at their home venue with the wins, including a 4-3 win over Georgia State for its second win of the year against a Sun Belt Conference opponent. Louisiana also pulled off a 6-1 win over Xavier (La.) in the second half of the doubleheader.
Will Huyton and Vlad Kramarov each earned a pair of singles wins on the day, while Jarred Wynan was also a pair of two wins on the doubles side of the slate.
In the first match of the day, the Ragin' Cajuns swept the final four singles matches of the afternoon against Georgia State to pull out a 4-3 win over the Panthers.
Louisiana dropped the doubles point to GSU, despite the brothers' duo of Jake and Jarred Wynan pulling out a 7-6 win at the No. 2 spot. The Panthers picked up wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles with Jannis Koeke getting past Jake Wynan (5-7, 6-2, 10-8) and Zack Kennedy edging Edgar Lopez (6-4, 7-5).
But from there it was all Cajuns on the back end of singles play. Damian Farinola rolled by Andrei Andrukhou in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) in No. 3 singles, while Jarred Wynan rallied from dropping the first set to shut out Sebastian Acuna (4-6, 6-0, 6-0) in the No. 4 spot.
Vlad Kramarov earned his fourth singles win of the season and snapped a three-match skid with a (6-4, 7-5) victory over Sofiane Chevallier in No. 5 singles and Will Huyton wrapped things up with a No. 6 singles win (6-2, 6-3) over Joseph Bishop.
The Cajuns then carried that momentum over to the nightcap against the Gold Rush, taking the doubles point and then claiming five of six points in singles play. Huyton and Jarred Wynan paired up for a (6-2) win over Tushar Mandlekar and Adam Albrecht at No. 2 doubles and Rok Sitar and Vlad Kramarov claimed the doubles point with a (7-6) win over Kevin Chaouat and Jordan Harrell.
Edgar Lopez then picked up his first No. 1 singles win of the year with a (6-4, 6-3) win over Kyle Montrel as part of a dominating singles performance for the Cajuns. Kramarov knocked off Harrell (6-0, 6-4) at No. 3 singles, and Huyton took down Mandlekar in straight sets (7-5, 7-5) at the No. 4 spot.
Sitar and Dimitris Stavropoulos also picked up victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with Sitar downing Albrecht (6-1, 6-3) and Stavropoulos picking off Chaouat (6-3, 6-3) in straight sets.
The Ragin' Cajuns will now get two weeks off before returning to action on February 20 at home against New Orleans and Jackson State.
