FOR STARTERS
A national TV audience comes calling on Saturday afternoon when the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns host UT Arlington, a game to be aired on ESPN2 with Roy Philpott (play-by-play) and former Oregon State head coach Craig Robinson (color) on the call.

THE LAST TIME OUT
Hayward Register exploded for career highs with 20 points and six three-point buckets and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns kicked it into another gear late in the second half to pull away from Appalachian State, 81-66, on Thursday night at the Cajundome.

Louisiana shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first half, led by 14 first-half points from Register, but still found itself tied with App State at 50-50 just under three minutes into the second half.

The Cajuns then went on an 11-2 run and never looked back, picking up their third win in their last five games and ninth win of the year at the Cajundome.

Register was not the only Cajun to turn in a stellar performance as big man Shawn Long continued to show why he is one of the top players in the SBC, going for his fourth straight double-double with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. He made just 6-for-14 from the floor, but was 10-for-11 at the foul line, tying his career high for made foul shots.

That total for Long also pushed him over the 1,500-point mark for his career, making him just the 13th Cajun in program history to reach that mark.

UP NEXT
A pair of road contests await the Ragin' Cajuns next week as they head north to take on in-state rival ULM on Thursday, followed by a trip to Troy on Saturday. The Cajuns will be looking to avenge a narrow 57-55 loss to the Warhawks when they travel to Monroe, while Saturday they will be looking for their eighth win over the Trojans in their last nine tries.

QUICK HITS

• Louisiana against UT Arlington is the first of two SBC wild card games to be aired on either ESPN or ESPN2. It is the third time this season Louisiana will be aired on one of ESPN's outlets, having twice been on the ESPN3 online platform this season. UL has also been on TV this year at Auburn when that game was aired on Fox Sports South.

• Local sophomore Hayward Register exploded for career highs in points (20) and three-point field goals (6) in Thursday's 81-66 win over Appalachian State.

Shawn Long's is 44-for-52 (.846) from the free throw line in his last seven games. He is averaging 22.0 points and 13.1 rebounds in those games, while shooting .526 from the field and .435 from three.

• Long has four straight double-doubles entering Saturday. It is the second time in his career he has put together four straight double-doubles, with his career high being six straght as a freshman.

• Saturday's win at Texas State was also the the first time this year in 11 tries that the Cajuns have rallied from a deficit at the 5-minute mark of the game.
