Last Time Out
- Freshman Simone Fields scored five of her career-high 15 points in double overtime and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team used a 10-4 run to open the second overtime session to earn an 83-81 victory over Texas State in a Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
- Jaylyn Gordon scored 22 points to lead five players in double figures for Louisiana (14-6, 6-4 SBC), which went 34-for-86 (39.5 percent) from the floor and held a 55-41 advantage on the glass. Robbie Brown added 18 points for the Ragin' Cajuns with Kia Wilridge 13 and Keke Veal 10.
- Fields, from nearby San Antonio, Texas, gave Louisiana the lead for good with 1:45 remaining after her three-point play gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 76-73 lead. Following a jumper by Texas State's Ericka May cut the lead to 76-75 with 1:35 remaining, Brown drained a 3-pointer with 1:10 left before Wilridge sank a pair of free throws with 31 seconds remaining.
- The Ragin' Cajuns sealed the win on a Fields bucket with eight seconds remaining before Texas State (12-8, 7-4 SBC) scored on a Taeler Deer layup and May 3-pointer in the final seconds.

A Look at the Mountaineers
- The Mountaineers come off a win against former Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern last Thursday, beating the Eagles in the final minute with a score of 77-74
- Bria Carter and Bria Huffman each had 16 points in the win, while Carter added 11 rebounds for her first career double-double
- Joi Jones and Katie Mallow added 13 points each in the win
- Ashley Bassett-Smith was one block short of tying an Appalachian record, notching seven blocks in the game
- Maryah Sydnor remains ranks second in the Sun Belt in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game
- She is also first in the conference in free throw percentage (85.2) and has moved to third in the league in rebounding (9.2)
- After Thursday's game, Bassett-Smith is ranked first in the Sun Belt in blocked shots, averaging 2.0 per game
- The Mountaineers remain first in the league in free throw percentage (73.9), while ranking third in scoring offense (70.8) and field goal percentage (41.8)

Series History
- Tonight's game will be the second-ever meeting between the schools on the hardwood with Appalachian State earning a 63-51 victory in the last meeting on Jan. 5, in Boone.

- The Cajuns have forced opponents to 20-plus turnovers on 14 different occasions as teams are forcing 21.4 turnovers per game this season. In 19 of 20 games, a team has committed at least 15 turnovers with Louisiana Tech being the one exception (14)
- Louisiana ranks fifth nationally in turnover margin with teams recording 7.1 more turnovers per game than the Cajuns
- Louisiana is 47th in the country in steals per game, averaging 10.5 on the season  
- Junior guard Kia Wilridge's tenacious defense this season has her ranked among the best in the country
- Wilridge has totaled 54 steals on the season for an average of 2.7 per game for first in the Sun Belt Conference and 32nd in the country

Louisiana Among Sun Belt Schools
- Defense is what has stood out this season for the Cajuns, and their numbers have placed them near the top in the Sun Belt in several categories
- Among Sun Belt schools, Louisiana ranks first in turnover margin (+7.1), second in steals (10.5) and opponent turnovers per game (21.5), and third in scoring defense (58.8)
- In league play, the Cajuns lead the conference in steals per game (10.4), turnover margin (+8.2), and opponent turnovers per game (21.1), and have held teams to 61.4 points per game to rank third behind UALR and UT Arlington.

Guards in the Sun Belt Rankings
- Guards Jaylyn Gordon, Keke Veal and Kia Wilridge are making several appearances in the SBC top-10 individual rankings
- Gordon comes in fourth in three-pointers per game (2.3), sixth in free-throw percentage (79.7%), ninth in scoring (13.3 ppg) and 10th in steals (1.8 spg)
- Veal ranks fifth with 2.3 steals per game but leads the league in SBC play with 3.0 per game. She is seventh in the SBC with 3.4 assists per game and a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio
- Wilridge appears four times in the SBC rankings, coming in first in steals (2.8 spg), tied for seventh in minutes (31.1 mpg), eighth in assists (2.9 apg) and 10th in scoring (13.2 ppg)

Cajuns Climbing the Record Books
- As the season progresses, several Cajuns are nearing the top 10 in the career record books
- Robbie Brown is closing in on 10th place in career games played, sitting just two games away with 108
- Kia Wilridge is nearing the top 10 in two career categories - steals and assists Wilridge currently has 199 assists, just four from 10th all-time. She also has totaled 143 career steals, five shy of the No. 10 spot in the record books
- Keke Veal is ranked on the top-10 list in career steals, recording 148 steals to date, 10th in school history
- Jaylyn Gordon is the final Cajun that is looking in on the career lists with two three-pointers against Georgia State from moving into 10th all-time. Gordon has made 75 three-pointers in her career
