Men's Tennis With Strong Showing at USTA Futures

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team had three players participate in the USTA Futures in Pensacola, Fla. last week. 

Jarred Wynan advanced to round four of the qualifying singles draw before falling to Henrik Wiersholm, 6-1, 6-4. Wynan took down Michael Atlesonn, 6-0, 6-1 in Round 1, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Christopher Ephron in Round 2. In two sets, he knocked out Jakab Wojcik, 6-3, 6-3 in the third round before coming up short in the fourth and final round. 

Following a Round 1 bye in the singles qualfying round, senior Jake Wynan topped Andrew Ely, 6-0, 6-1 in the second round and won, 6-3, 6-2, over Noah Sutter in round three. In a three-set match in round four, Wynan came up short against Denis Shapovalov, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Wynan fell to Wil Spencer in the singles main draw, 6-0, 6-1. 

Freshman Arthur Libaud defeated Mitchell Thomas McDaniels, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the qualifying singles round and followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Gereon Heitmann in the second round of the qualifying singles draw. He was retired in the third round vs. Boris Nicola Bakalov, 7-6 (3), 2-0 (retired).

The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will return to action on January 16 at 1 p.m. in their regular season opener against Lamar at the Cajun Tennis Courts.
