LAFAYETTE – Nearly five months after clinching the program's fourth straight super regional berth by winning the NCAA Lafayette Regional title, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team takes the field at Lamson Park for competition on Friday, Oct. 23 in its first home exhibition of the 2015 fall season.
Louisiana is scheduled to face Galveston College at 3 p.m., on Friday. Admission to the event is free and concessions will be sold. Parking is available in the Lamson Park and Bourgeois Hall parking lots.
The contest marks the third of the fall season for head coach Michael Lotief's squad. The Ragin' Cajuns opened the fall exhibition season last Saturday against LSU-Alexandria and LSU-Eunice at the Experience Louisiana Festival in Eunice.
Friday's meeting with Galveston College is the first of four contests for the Cajuns at Lamson Park over the next two weeks. Games with LSU-Eunice (Oct. 28 – 6 p.m.) and Lamar (Nov. 5 – 6 p.m.) plus an alumni contest (Nov. 7 – TBA) round out the fall schedule.
Head coach Michael Lotief welcomed back 28 players – including eight of the nine hitters in the starting lineup – from last season's Sun Belt Conference championship squad, which advanced to the program's fourth straight NCAA Super Regional. Seven freshmen were added to the roster in August and associate head coach Chris Malveaux and assistant coach Lana Bowers rejoined the coaching staff in July.
