Two-Out Magic Powers Louisiana to Series Sweep

Timely hitting and Noble’s four shutout innings finish off Coastal Carolina
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team completed a dominant weekend at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park on Sunday, April 19, using relentless two-out hitting and a steady effort in the circle to defeat Coastal Carolina, 8-2, and secure a Sun Belt Conference series sweep.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (25-22, 8-10 SBC) collected all eight of their runs with two outs, showcasing timely execution throughout the first three innings to put the game out of reach early.
Â
The sweep marked Louisiana's first in SBC play this season and its first since taking all three games from Southern Miss to close the 2025 regular season (May 1-3). The win also preserved Louisiana's perfect all-time record (now 15-0) at home against the Chanticleers (22-26, 6-12 SBC).
Â
Louisiana continued its climb up the SBC standings, moving into a sixth-place tie as the race for positioning in the May 6-9 championship tournament being held at Lamson Park enters the stretch run.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UL wasted little time applying pressure. In the first inning, with two outs, Haley Hart delivered a run-scoring triple down the right field line before Emily Smith followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
Â
The decisive blow came in the second. After two quick outs, the Ragin' Cajuns strung together five consecutive productive at-bats.
Â
Kennedy Marceaux started the surge with an RBI double, Mia Liscano added a run-scoring single, and Hart capped the rally with a two-run single through the right side. Louisiana plated four runs in the frame, all with two outs, extending the lead to 6-0.
Â
Two more runs crossed in the third inning, again with two outs. Marceaux reached on an error and later scored, while Liscano delivered another RBI single.
Â
Coastal broke through in the fourth inning when McKennah Metzger hit a two-run home run to left-center, trimming the deficit to 8-2. However, that would be the Chanticleers' final push offensively.
Â
From that point on, Bethaney Noble (4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K) took control in the circle.
Â
Entering in the fourth inning with runners on base, Noble worked out of trouble and proceeded to shut down the Chants over the final four innings. She allowed just two hits and no runs, earning the victory and sealing the sweep with a composed, efficient performance.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
At the plate, Liscano led Louisiana with a 3-for-3 performance and two RBI, while Hart (2-for-3, triple, 3 RBI) drove in a game-high three runs on her two-out triple in the first and two-run single in the second. Marceaux (2-for-4, double, RBI) scored three times and added an RBI, playing a key role in multiple two-out rallies.
Â
Liscano stretched her reached-base streak in SBC play to 17 straight games while Marceaux extended her conference-play hitting streak to 13 games.
Â
Marceaux concluded the series with team-high totals in hits (7) and run scored (8). Hart brought her weekend RBI total to six, trailing only Brooke Otto's eight, while increasing her conference-play RBI total to 15.
Â
UL finished with 10 hits, eight coming with two outs, to bring its series-closing total to 32 on .421 hitting.
Â
Sage Hoover started in the circle and kept Louisiana in control early, allowing two runs over three-plus innings before handing the game over to Noble. The duo combined to strand nine Coastal Carolina runners.
Â
McKennah Metzger (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) accounted for both of Coastal's runs with a two-run homer in the fourth. Pitcher Mackenzie Childers (6.0 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 2 BB, 2 K) faced extended two-out innings that proved decisive, but closed facing only one over the minimum the final three innings.
