MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off of a third place finish at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team returns to action on Monday as the squad tees off at the Memphis Intercollegiate hosted at the par-72, 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club.
Â
"This is a golf course that can really test you," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We need to be patient and not let one bad hole take us out of our game. We have had some good finishes here in the last couple years, so that is something for us to draw on. If we continue to learn and apply we should find ourselves in a position to come away with a win."
Â
Play begins at 8 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start for the first and second rounds, while the third and final round is slated to start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Â
Host Memphis, UALR, Arkansas State, Belmont, Cincinnati, Lipscomb, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Toledo and WKU make up the 13-team field.
Â
The Cajuns finished in third last year as Haraldur Magnus claimed the individual championship with the only sub-par score of the tournament. Louisiana notched a second place finish at the event in 2013 finishing two strokes back of Austin Peay for the championship.
Â
Magnus is joined by the same lineup from a week ago with senior Louis Kelly looking to build upon a third place finish at Sam Hall where he posted three rounds under par. Also in the lineup is sophomore Fernando Cruz Valle and juniors Ross Davis and Thomas Strandemo. Davis has two consecutive top 10 finishes at the Memphis Intercollegiate with a sixth place finish in 2013 and a ninth place finish this past spring.
Â
"We stuck with the same lineup this week, but it's also nice to have some depth at home to make you think about the lineup," Sliman added. "Having two tournaments so close together, it was tough to make a change after having three rounds where you are throwing out a 73 as your high score.
Â
"I have a lot of confidence in this lineup. This group has had success at this course, and they are playing well. I look for us to come out and put together another strong showing this week."
