Men’s Tennis Set To Face Mississippi State In Austin Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – The 61st-ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is set to face 18th-ranked Mississippi State in the first round of the Austin Regional on Friday at 10 a.m. at Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
Admission to the match is $8 for adults and $6 for youth. Fans not in attendance can follow the match via live scoring available on the Austin Regional Tournament Central page.
The winner of the match will move on to face the winner of the No.9 Texas/Marist contest in the second round on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Louisiana (20-4) comes into the contest on a 10-match win streak after defeating South Alabama 4-2 to win the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Cajuns have posted the most wins since 1986 and currently own the best winning percentage in program history.
Sophomore Hunter Johnson is on a 15-match singles win streak going a perfect 15-0 during the spring season playing at lines three through six. Five Ragin' Cajuns players have posted double-digit win totals in singles this season.
In doubles, the duo of Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan lead the team with a 13-3 record and have posted a pair of wins against ranked opponents. Wynan and de Groot have won seven straight matches coming into the regional.
The Cajuns are 10-18 all time against the Bulldogs with the last meeting coming in 2008 as MSU won 6-1 in Starkville, Miss.
Mississippi State (18-10) comes into the contest having lost its last two matches to Texas A&M and LSU. The Bulldogs were 7-8 away from home this season.
Jordan Angus leads MSU with a 19-8 record in singles playing on lines two through four. Angus has won his last nine matches coming into the regional, while Florian Lakat is currently ranked 61st in the nation in singles with teammate Malte Stropp ranked 103rd.
The duo of Angus and Stropp are the 17th ranked doubles team in the country and have posted a 12-7 record this spring having won their last four decisions.
