Cajuns and Tigers Set To Meet On Opening Day Of Regional

LAFAYETTE, La. – The nationally seeded sixth Ragin Cajuns baseball team is set to open the Lafayette Regional against Jackson State at 6 p.m. on Friday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The game can be seen live on ESPN3.com with Kevin Dunn providing the play-by-play with Keith Moreland adding color. Fans can also catch the game on KPEL 96.5 FM with Jay Walker making the call.

The winner of the contest will face the winner of Mississippi State and San Diego State at 6 p.m. on Saturday, while the loser will play an elimination game at 1 p.m. the same day.

The consensus No. 1 Cajuns (53-7) come into the contest with the nation's longest winning streak of 10 games and have the most victories in the country. Louisiana claimed both the Sun Belt regular-season and tournament championship after defeating UT Arlington 6-5 in the tournament title game.

Junior Austin Robichaux will make the start for Louisiana boasting a 7-2 record with a 3.01 ERA in 11 starts.

Jace Conrad, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, was recently named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American after hitting .367 with 19 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 55 RBI. Caleb Adams leads the squad with a .386 average, seven triples and 11 home runs.

The Cajuns and Tigers have met three times in program history with Louisiana winning all three meetings. The last contest came a year ago with the Ragin' Cajuns claiming a 15-1 victory over Jackson State an in elimination game at the Baton Rouge Regional.

JSU (31-23) has won its last five contests going undefeated in the SWAC tournament to win an automatic bid into the NCAAs. The Tigers gutted out a 9-8 win over top-seeded Alabama State in the SWAC title game.

The Tigers will counter with left-hander Vincent Anthonia on the mound. Anthonia is 3-0 this season with a 3.41 ERA in 37 innings. Tilur Smith leads the team offensively hitting .344 with 16 doubles, three triples and three home runs.
