Cajuns Men’s Tennis Rolls To 5-2 Win At UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team picked up its 11th win of the season on Friday defeating UAB 5-2 on the road at Lakeshore Tennis Center.

Louisiana (11-4) won the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Twins Hunter and Yates Johnson defeated the duo of Lucas Dirube and Donovan McSeveney 8-4 at the No. 2 position, while Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola teamed up to take down Luiz Felipe Pinto and Rafael Rondino, 8-5, at the No. 3 position.

The Cajuns won four of the six singles matches led by Hunter Johnson who notched his eighth singles win to remain undefeated on the year. Johnson defeated Felipe Pinto in straight sets on court five, 6-1, 6-3. The New Braunfels, Texas native hasn't dropped a set this spring.

Senior Rick de Groot also posted a straight set victory on court three topping Dirube 6-4, 6-3. Carl Alberton remained undefeated as well with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court six.

Farinola picked up the final point of the match on court four winning in a super-tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7).

The Ragin' Cajuns close out their Alabama road trip tomorrow at 10 a.m. as they face Samford. After the match with the Bulldogs, the Cajuns return home for four straight matches starting on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Alcorn State at Cajun Courts.
