Women’s Tennis Falls To In-State Rival McNeese State, 6-1

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell 6-1 on the road at in-state rival McNeese State on Wednesday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Stadium.

"I give credit to McNeese State and coach Danielle Steinberg," head coach Greg Harkins said. "Their depth and strength was too much for us to over come. I'm very proud of our number one doubles squad of Nelo Phiri and Nicole Breaux who have won seven of their last eight matches. Julie Cremers did a good job winning at line four. We need to regroup and get ready for Louisiana Tech at home this Saturday."

The Cowgirls (6-4) claimed the doubles point with wins on lines two and three. Breaux and Phiri had the Cajuns (5-10) lone doubles win on court one, 8-6.

In singles, McNeese State won three straight matches to clinch the match winning at five of the six positions.

Julia Kral clinched the match defeating Melissa Burckhaart on court three, 6-3, 6-4.

Julie Cremers recorded the Cajuns only point of the match picking up a straight set victory over Vivien Borbely, 6-4, 6-1.

Louisiana is back in action this Saturday as the Cajuns host Louisiana in a 2 p.m. match at Cajun Courts. Admission to the match is free.
