Cajuns visit McNeese State on Wednesday
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-0 decision to nationally-ranked North Florida on Tuesday at Cajun Courts.
UNF (6-1), ranked No. 68 in the latest ITA ranking, claimed the doubles point with solid victories at No. 2 and 3 before posting victories in singles play at No. 4, 6 and 1. Louisiana, which returns to action on Wednesday when it visits McNeese State, fell to 5-9 on the season.
"I thought our team played with good energy today and put forth a competitive effort," head coach Greg Harkins said. "But give credit to UNF, we lost to the better team.
"The girls want to play against nationally-ranked teams and today's effort will help us for our match against McNeese on Wednesday."
The Ospreys claimed the doubles point beginning at No. 2 when the tandem of Simona Weymar and Esther Zuniga defeated Louisiana's Julie Cremers and Melissa Burckhartt, 8-2. UNF clinched the doubles point at No. 3 when Marina Cunningham and Taylor Hollander earned an 8-1 victory over Juliette Clement and Alexandra Way.
UNF took a 2-0 lead when Rebeca Pereira recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alexandra Way at No. 4 singles before Hollander defeated Clement at No. 6, 7-5, 6-0, for a 3-0 lead. The Osperys closed out the match at No. 1 singles when Weymar earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nelo Phiri.
