Men’s Tennis Splits Day One At HEB Tournament of Championships

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After opening the day with a sweep of DePaul, 4-0 for the squad's fifth straight win, the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team fell in a 4-2 contest to conference foe South Alabama on Friday at the HEB Tournament of Champions held on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Louisiana (9-3) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage against the Blue Demons (2-6) winning the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola clinched the point defeating Joshua Schramm and Jan-Willem Feilzer 8-4 at the No.3 position.

In singles, The Cajuns picked up three quick wins to close out the contest. Damian Farinola clinched the match topping Joshua Schramm 6-2, 6-0 on court four.

The evening contest against the Jaguars started with singles play first. After a win on court three by South Alabama, Hunter Johnson notched his sixth straight singles win and second of the day besting Juan Troglia on court six, 6-2, 6-3, to even the contest at 1-all.

Jake Wynan put the Cajuns ahead 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Manuel Belda at the No.3 position.

The Jaguars went on to win the next three matches to clinch the match with 94^th ranked Daniel Leitner defeating Rick de Groot on court one, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to close out the contest.
