HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Riding a four-game win streak, the 14th ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team heads to Southern Miss for a three-game series at Pete Taylor Park starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
The second game of the series is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, while first pitch of the series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
Louisiana (4-1) won three out of four games against Eastern Illinois before taking a 5-3 decision against in-state foe Northwestern State Wednesday night on the road.
Evan Powell continues to swing a hot bat leading the team with a .455 batting average. The junior notched a pair of RBI against the Demons going 2-for-4 with a home run.
Senior Ryan Wilson has made the most of his three starts in left field going 5-for-13 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI.
The Cajuns are 21-19 all-time against the Golden Eagles (2-2) taking two of three at Southern Miss a year ago. The two teams have played a three-game series in each of the past five seasons.
The Golden Eagles picked up a 14-2 win on the road at ULM on Tuesday night. Southern Miss had a tough start to the season having to switch gears and head to McNeese State due to inclement weather keeping the Eagles opening day opponent from being able to make the trip to Hattiesburg.
Southern Miss went 1-2 in Lake Charles, La. falling to Missouri 4-2 and McNeese State 7-1 while earning an 11-8 win against Chicago State. Nick Dawson leads the USM offensively hitting .429 with six hits, three RBI and three runs.
After the series with the Golden Eagles, the Cajuns are slated to head down I-10 to Baton Rouge, La. to face third ranked LSU at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
