STORYLINES
• The Ragin' Cajuns open up the season for the second straight year against Louisiana College on Friday, Nov. 14 at the Cajundome. Louisiana picked up a 101-67 win over the Wildcats last season, led by double-doubles from both Shawn Long (23 points, 14 rebounds) and Elfrid Payton (21 points, 10 assists).
• Under head coach Bob Marlin, the Ragin' Cajuns are 3-1 in season and home openers, having won each of the last three after a 92-76 loss to New Mexico State to open the 2010-11 season, Marlin's first at Louisiana.
THE LAST TIME OUT
• The Ragin' Cajuns put 12 players in the scoring column in an 87-60 exhibition win over Loyola-New Orleans on Nov. 5 at the Cajundome. Bryce Washington led all scorers with 16 points and six rebounds for the Cajuns and was joined by Brian Williams (14) and Johnathan Stove (10) in double figures. Louisiana played without three of their top big men in Shawn Long, J.J. Davenport and Devonta Walker, but still outscored the Wolfpack 54-24 in the paint and 14-0 in fast-break points.
Though just an eight-point game at the half, Louisiana outscored Loyola 48-29 in the second half and drained five triples on the night - three from Hayward Register. The Cajuns forced 21 turnovers and held a 28-10 edge in points off turnovers.
UP NEXT
• Louisiana hits the road for four straight games away from the Cajundome as part of the MGM Grand Main Event beginning Nov. 17 at Tulsa. The Ragin' Cajuns will travel to Auburn on Nov. 21 to complete the road portion of the tournament before heading to Las Vegas for games on consecutive neutral-site games against Milwaukee and Oral Roberts on Nov. 24 and 25. They will not return to the Cajundome in November, opening up December with a Dec. 3 meeting with Jackson State.
• Louisiana is 6-1 against non-Division I teams under head coach Bob Marlin. The lone loss came to Texas College (77-74) on Dec. 12, 2010, Marlin's first year at the helm.
• Shawn Long needs 10 rebounds to reach 700 boards for his career.
• The Cajuns have had at least one 20-point scorer in 16 straight games.
• UL has won its last seven non-conference home games, including a 6-0 mark in non-conference home games in 2013-14.
