ATLANTA, Ga. – Despite jumping out to a 3-1 advantage, the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team came up short in a hard fought 4-3 decision to Georgia State at the Blackburn Tennis Club on Saturday.

“We give Georgia State a lot of credit,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “They took the match away from us. We know what we need to work on, so hopefully the guys will plug the holes that we have seen today. Hopefully tomorrow we can close out the match.”

The Cajuns (7-7) jumped out a 1-0 lead after clinching the doubles point on court three as twins Hunter and Yates Johnson battled from behind to defeat Sofiane Chevallier and Paul Schuette 8-6.

In singles play, Georgia State (8-6) evened the contest at 1-all after 81st ranked Victor Valente defeated Rick de Groot 6-1, 6-3 at the No.1 position.

Louisiana regained the lead after a win on court two by freshman Jake Wynan. Wynan tallied a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cook to pick up his sixth win of the spring.

Damian Farinola increased the UL advantage to 3-1 after defeating Sofiane Chevallier 6-4, 6-1 at No.6 singles.

The Panthers grabbed the next three points of the match to pull of the comeback. Schulze clinched the match for Georgia State besting sophomore Jarred Wynan in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2, at the No.4 position.

“We are building and maintaining leads, the problem is closing them out,” Jeffrey stated. “We are not aggressive enough to close out matches. We are waiting for the other team to miss instead of going out there and taking it away. Let's hope we learn from it and change that for next time.”

Louisiana closes out the Atlanta trip tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT against Georgia Southern at the Blackburn Tennis Club.

After the Georgia Southern match, the Cajuns open a three-match homestand at Cajun Courts against Youngstown State on Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m. Follow the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team on twitter @CajunMensTennis.
