Louisiana Women’s Tennis Takes Down Southern Miss, 6-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team got back on track Friday afternoon as Louisiana defeated Southern Miss 6-1 in a dual match at the USM Tennis Courts.

“It was a good day for us,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “I was very impressed with the girls business like attitude. It is never easy when you are facing an opponent on the road. We certainly never let up against a Southern Miss team that gave it all that they had. Today was great preparation for a tough match tomorrow against Middle Tennessee. I know the girls are looking forward to the match.”

The Cajuns (8-5) earned the doubles point after wins on courts two and three. Juliette Clement and Melissa Burckhartt continued their undefeated season in doubles with a strong 8-0 victory over Macie Case and Emily Nettles. Clement and Breaux are 10-0 in doubles matches this spring.

Louisiana claimed straight set wins on singles courts two through six. On court three, Burckhartt increased her win streak to eight matches topping Elanor Grossman 6-2, 7-5.

Southern Miss (0-12) picked up their lone point at No.1 singles as Sophie van den Aarssen dropped a hard fought 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-7) decision to Alexus Coats.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to action tomorrow at noon when they face conference foe Middle Tennessee at the USM Tennis Courts. Follow the women's tennis team on twitter @CajunW10ns.
