BATON ROUGE – The Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's track and field team found continued success in the jumps here Saturday as the squad concluded the LSU Relays at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the LSU campus.
Louisiana landed Top 5 finishes in the men's long jump and women's long jump, triple jump and high jump.
Ta'Shania Bean took home the title in women's triple jump with a leap of 12.16m/39-10 ¾, which marked a personal best for the junior from New Orleans (previous was 12.05m/39-6 ½ at Ole Miss in 2012).
Bean edged out teammate Tarvia Conway who as a mere two inches behind in second place. Conway's top leap that earned her the runner-up slot was 12.11m/39-8 ¾. Conway picked up her second Top 5 placement in the event in 2013, topping her leap of 11.66m/38-3 ¼ at last week's Louisiana Classics.
Jasmin Fusilier placed fourth at 11.84m/38-10 ¼ giving the Cajuns three of the Top 5 finishers in women's triple jump.
Bean shined in the women's long jump as she was one of only three competitors to reach a distance past 19 feet. Bean was third in the long jump with a distance of 5.81m/19-0 ¾. That mark was her second personal best of the day eclipsing her previous long jump best of 5.71m/18-9 at last season Sun Belt Outdoor Championship.
Lafayette native Lindsey Harmon claimed second place in women's high jump with a clearance of 1.69m/5-6 ½. Harmon bested LSU's Lynnika Pitts and Sun Belt rival Danielle O'Donnell of ULM.
Madalyn Trisler joined Harmon in the Top 5 of women's high jump as her height of 1.64m/5-4 ½ place her fifth out of 13 competitors who recorded a height.
Devin Davis made his season debut in men's long jump and fell five inches shy of an event title. Davis' height of 7.16m/23-6 placed him third right behind first place finisher Phillippe Moore of Southeastern Louisiana (7.29m/23-11).
On the track, redshirt senior Kacey Elphage ran the women's 100 meter hurdles in under 14 seconds a second straight week. She narrowly missed her Louisiana Classics time (13.59) as she completed Saturday's race in 13.67 seconds. The Donaldsonville native was one of only five competitors (out of 27) to run in less than 14 seconds.
Morgan Breaux (Maurice, La./North Vermilion HS) claimed Top 5 honors in women's 100 meter dash for the second straight week as her time of 12.05 seconds placed her fifth.
The Cajuns' women's 4x100 relay was strong a second straight week. The grouping of Stacy Imagbe, Breaux, Fusilier and Alexis Malone ran in 47.07 seconds, beating out the 47.21 seconds timing at the Louisiana Classics. The quartet placed fourth out of 15 teams.
Matt Rice (6th, 1:54.21) and Scott Brewster (8th, 1:55.35) both claimed Top 10 spots in men's 800 meter run and Cole Stafford was runner-up in men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:53.25. The freshman trio recorded their personal bests in the events.
