WACO, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will look to take down its second straight ranked opponent on Thursday as Louisiana heads to 29th ranked Baylor for a 2 p.m. match at the Hurd Tennis Center.

“We are facing a team that recently defeated No.4 Kentucky, so they are a legit contender for a national championship this year,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “This is what you play the game for. We want to be tested at the highest level. Our guys need to continue to toughen up. We are going to keep the foot on the gas as we push the guys to the very end.

“We are going into this match with a chip on our shoulder. We are not happy with our record and we are looking to rise up and continue to compete and beat top class competition. We are due for a top 30 win. That was our goal prior to the season. This is the opportunity to do just that.”

Louisiana (10-8) is coming off of a 4-3 win over No.61 Samford at Cajun Courts. The Ragin' Cajuns have been strong in doubles play posting a .698 winning percentage (30-13) this spring.

The duo of Jake Wynan and Rick de Groot lead the way in doubles for UL with a team-best record of 11-4. The pair recently defeating the 52nd ranked doubles team of Dunkle and Garrison Laduca from Samford, 8-3.

Junior Rick de Groot was recently honored as the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week after posting a 5-1 record last week including a 3-0 mark in singles competition. De Groot is currently riding a four-match win streak in singles.

Baylor (10-4) leads the overall series with UL, 9-5. The last meeting came a year ago as the Bears notched a 7-0 victory in the season opener.

The Bears are coming off a tough stretch of matches that included contests against four top-5 teams. BU was 1-3 in those matches. On the season, Baylor is 10-4 and 7-2 at home.

Baylor currently has four players ranked in the latest ITA  singles rankings. Julian Lenz, Patrick Pradella, Marko Krickovic and Mate Zsiga are ranked No. 49, 64, 97, and 98, respectively.
