LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team returns to the road for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches beginning Friday when they visit Troy in a 7 p.m. match at Trojan Arena.
After facing Troy (6-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) in the opener, the Ragin' Cajuns (11-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) will travel to face Arkansas State (6-11, 2-1 Sun Belt) on Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest. Live statistics and a live video stream (subscription required) for both matches will be available on the volleyball page at RaginCajuns.com.
Playing on its home floor for the first time since Sept. 7, Louisiana earned a straight set victory over in-state rival ULM on Wednesday, defeating the Warhawks 26-24, 25-17, 25-16.
Junior Kaylee Nemeth recorded a career-high 15 kills and hit .522 from the floor to lead the Ragin' Cajuns with Tonice White adding 10 kills with a .500 average (10-1-18). Andrea Hole posted her ninth double-double of the season with 35 assists and 12 digs while Caitlyn Auxilien led the Ragin' Cajuns with 14 digs.
"It was glad that we had a home game, in that we had a chance to get our legs back," head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "Hopefully, that will give us a push to go back on the road again and face two good teams in Troy and Arkansas State. Both teams are 6-and-11 on the season, but their record is not indicative of who they are. Last night's win, in the fashion that we won, was very important to us in how we need to do this weekend."
Lavinia Tataran leads Louisiana from the floor averaging 2.84 kills per set. The senior is followed in kills per set by Sara Mossakowski (2.50), Nemeth (2.29), White (2.10) and freshman Chanelle Gardner (1.84). Hole leads the Ragin' Cajuns, and is ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference, in assists averaging 10.09 per set while Mossakowski and Taylor Meade leading the team with 19 service aces.
Defensively, Auxilien is sixth in the Sun Belt Conference with 4.19 digs per set and is followed by Hole (3.04), Tataran (2.52), Mossakowski (2.04) and Meade (2.03). Gardner leads Louisiana with 49 blocks (1.00 per set) and is followed by White (0.67) and Nemeth (0.64).
Troy snapped a five-match losing streak on Wednesday after earning a straight set victory (26-24, 26-24, 26-24) at South Alabama. Marija Zelenovic paced the Trojans with 11 kills in the match with setter Alexandra Alexander dishing out 34 assists and adding 10 digs.
Zelenovic leads Troy's offensive attack averaging 3.33 kills per set and is followed by Blair Winston (2.62) and Kayla Pickart (2.19). Alexander leads the Trojans with 8.06 assists per set while libero Courtney Cohen is seventh in the Sun Belt Conference with 4.05 digs.
