NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team went 11-5 in singles and doubles play on the first day of the Northwestern State Invitational.
Louisiana opened the morning with a sweep of doubles going 3-0. An 8-7(9) tiebreaker victory by Nicole Breaux and Nelo Phiri over Maso/Elving of Lamar highlighted the action.
In singles action, freshman Julie Cremers, sophomore Juliette Clement and senior Sandra Ahlqvist all went undefeated. Ahlqvist and Cremers meet each other in Flight 5 finals, while Clement reached the Flight 6 championship match.
"It was great to see Sandra back in action," head coach Greg Harkins said. "She had been injured since last year's conference championships in April. It took a lot of guts to play like she did today. I am proud of the effort.
"I thought we competed well today. There was consistency in our play today, and that gave us the opportunity to close out matches."
Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30am. For updates on women's tennis follow the squad on twitter @CajunW10ns.
