GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team saw its season come to an end on Saturday at the Grandover Resort East Course in Greensboro, N.C. after finishing the Greensboro Regional in 12th place.
“I am very disappointed in the results, but not disappointed in the effort and in the guys,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “It was a very emotional day for the team with this being the last day for our two seniors. Golf is a cruel game and today it got the best of us. I am very proud of what the guys were able to accomplish this year. Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end.”
UL finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 52-over par (916). No.32 Liberty was the wire-to-wire champion of the Greensboro Regional posting a final score of four-over par (868).
No.17 Florida (871), No.5 Auburn (874), Lamar (877) and Tulsa (878) join Liberty as the top five teams that will move on to nationals, while Cambell's Vaita Guillaume won a playoff against SMU's Matt Schovee to win the individual championship.
“I think we let our emotions get the best of us today,” Sliman stated. “We haven't made it to the nationals as a team in a while, and I felt like the team was pressing in order to make it into the top five. You also had Philipp and Andrew realizing that this was their last time out and they let their emotions get to them. When you press and let emotions get the better of you things can snowball like they did today.”
Senior Andrew Noto was the Cajuns top finisher at the Greensboro Regional placing in a tie for 28th at eight-over par (224).
Brandt Garon slipped into a tie for 44th on the final day finishing the event with a score of 11-over par (227), while Philipp Fendt ended up in a tie for 58th at 15-over par (231).
Junior Yohann Vora rounded out the scoring for Louisiana carding a three-round score of 18-over par (234) to finish in a tie for 64th.
