Women’s Tennis Falls to South Alabama, 4-3

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team suffered yet another heartbreaking 4-3 loss Friday afternoon as UL fell to conference foe South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.

“We had a tremendous effort today, but I am very disappointed that we couldn't capitalize on the momentum we gained from doubles,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “We have got to learn how to push through in these tight matches. I have to give credit to USA and coach Keyser. They have an improved squad and it showed today.”

The Cajuns (3-9) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after taking the doubles point. The team of Milou Israel and Erin Wilbert defeated Alina Volman and Mariya Krachok 8-4. After the Jaguars won at No.2, Sandra Ahlqvist and Sophie van den Aarssen gutted out a tough 9-8 (8-6) victory at No.3 doubles.

In singles play, South Alabama got three quick points at No.4-6 singles. Ramona Ghermani clinched the match for USA at No.2 defeating van den Arssen 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

Milou Isreal added her team-best eighth singles win at No.1 with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Volman.

Erin Wilbet picked up the other singles win for the Cajuns at No.3 defeating Chane Hines 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) in a super tiebreaker.

“There is no rest for us unfortunately as we face yet another tough team tomorrow,” Harkins said. “Hopefully we can close out our weekend road trip with a win.”

UL is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when the Cajuns face Austin Peay at 1 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
