Women’s Tennis Falls to La.-Monroe, 5-2

MONROE, La. – Louisiana's Ragin Cajun's women's tennis team fell to La.-Monroe 5-2 in a dual match on Thursday afternoon at Heard Stadium in Monroe, La.

“I'm disappointed in the performance of the team today,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “We did not play to our ability. We had the momentum in doubles and could not capitalize which set the tone for the whole match. Second place isn't good enough. We need to come out with more intensity and push through in those critical moments of the match.”

The Cajuns (3-11) dropped the doubles point despite an impressive 8-1 win at No.1 by Milou Israel and Erin Wilbert.

Israel picked up her team-leading ninth win defeating Sophie Rufyikiri at No.1 singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Sandra Ahlqvist also notched a victory at No. 4 downing Vivian Polak 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.

Medy Blankvoort clinched the match for the Warhawks (10-2) at No.2 singles defeating Erin Wilbert 6-1, 6-3.

“Hopefully we can turn things around when we face Southern Miss,” Harkins said. “We really need to turn things around with the conference tournament coming up in less than a month.”

UL returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Southern Mississippi at Cajun Courts.
