Men's Tennis Tops No.75 Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 4-0

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team picked up its third straight win Thursday afternoon defeating No.75 Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a dual match at Cajun Courts, 4-0.

“The guys came out with energy,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “That is what we have been preaching all week, to make sure we start with a lot of energy. That affects not only their match, but the other matches going around them. I really tip my hat to the crowd today and to our assistant coach Ken Christian for the work he has put in with the guys.”

The two teams opened with singles play as Damian Farinola quickly picked up the first point for the Cajuns (3-2) defeating Corpus Christi's Fernando Llorens 6-0, 6-1 at No.4 singles.

UL grabbed its next two points at No.1 and No.3 singles with both Rick DeGroot and Yanick Mandl winning in straight sets.

Carl Alberton captured the match for the Cajuns at No.6 singles earning a 6-1, 7-5 win over Alex Pavlov.

“I feel like we are doing some good things at certain positions, and at other positions I know that the guys are working hard and can play a lot better,” Jeffrey added. “The exciting thing for this team is that we can get a whole lot better. We look to keep working hard and gaining confidence each day”

The Cajuns return to action on Monday as they head to Richmond, Va. to face No. 40 Virginia Commonwealth.

“Now we have to turn our attention to 40^th ranked VCU on Monday,” Jeffrey said. “We are really looking forward to it, and the guys are hungry to get back out on the courts.”
